Fun Turkey Cookies – or Funny Turkeys

10 Days. 10 Turkeys. 10 Different Cutters. Today is day 4 in my turkey challenge and I think it is time for some fun turkey cookies. These little guys look like they have tiny candy cane tail feathers. I guess it is because it snowed here the other day and it made me dream of candy canes. Since I was in the middle of designing turkey cookies, well, you see the results. Fun turkey cookies with wild tail feathers that are made from a wheat cookie cutter.

Groundhog’s Day Cookies!

I have to admit, as a little girl I was always confused on Groundhog’s Day. I thought if there were clouds in the sky, we would have a longer winter so I always wished for a cloudy gloomy day. I didn’t want the sun because it meant the snow would leave and no more snow days!

Snowmen Cookies and a Snow DAY!

There is nothing better to do on a snow day then to make snowmen cookies. I have been waiting for a good snow day for a couple of years now. Sometimes it snows here and sometimes it doesn’t. Well, we finally got snow Thursday but, it was not what I expected! I got a little more than I wished for! More on that later but first, I want to show you some cookies.Snow Day Snowmen Cookies via www.thebearfootbaker.comThis is what I feel like every time I see a snowflake! I feel nothing but PURE JOY!!! I run around like a kid who has just been told that school was cancelled! Want to take a snow day with me and make some snowmen cookies? Please say yes!!

Snow Day Snowmen Cookies via www.thebearfootbaker.comI got this cute little cutter from The Cookie Cutter Company but, it isn’t a snowmen cutter. It is an Indian cutter. I trimmed the sides of the pants and now it is perfect for snowmen cookies. Now, let’s decorate.

First, outline the snowman’s body with the white icing. Snow Day Snowmen Cookies via www.thebearfootbaker.comNext, flood the body and let dry overnight.

Snow Day Snowmen Cookies via www.thebearfootbaker.comThen, paint the mouth like I did the here. You could use black icing for the mouth but, I decided to paint with black food coloring because I like the look better and because it is less likely to bleed.

Snow Day Snowmen Cookies via www.thebearfootbaker.comNext, you can airbrush a little blue around the edges or you can leave it white. If you want to airbrush him click here to see how. If you want to know how to use an airbrush gun, click here.

Then, with the orange icing, flood his cute little carrot nose.

Now for the story about my “Snow DAY!”  Did you watch Gilmore Girls when it was on back in the day? Well, I am kinda like Lorelai when it comes to snow. I can smell it! I know it is coming and I will get up at 2 am and stand outside looking for the first flake. I know it sounds crazy but, it has always been this magical thing for me. Watch this video of Lorelai being mad at snow! They had a great relationship until this day…

It is what I was doing Thursday. I was mad at snow for a little while just like Lorelai. I totally yelled and fussed at snow just like she did in this scene! I guess I should give you the entire story so you will understand why I was acting like a crazy woman.

A tree didn’t fall on my Jeep like it did hers but, it started snowing while my oldest son was on his way home from work (he lives close) and his truck was sliding and he had to stop about 5 miles away from home. It was cold and snowy and I didn’t want him to walk 5 miles while I was worm and cozy by the fire. So Alan and I did what any parents would do. We went into “SNOW MODE” and decided to go get him. I love “SNOW MODE!” Getting out in the snow is one of the greatest things about winter. I look for red birds in the white canvas because the red and white look so great together and I can build a snowman and give him a round nose (focus Lisa, focus…) Remember when I told you the roads in Tennessee were very curvy and hilly and you could go off the road and down a mountain or in a creek? Do you see where I am going with this???

Jeep in Creek- Snow Day Snowmen Cookies via www.thebearfootbaker.comYES, I AM GOING INTO THE CREEK!!! The snow tricked us! It totally hid the sheet of ice on the road! We slid into the creek like we were on some kind of amusement park ride. The creek is usually ankle deep but, we have had so much rain that it grew and grew and grew like the Grinch’s heart. Jeep in a Creek- Snow Day Snowmen Cookies via www.thebearfootbaker.comIn spite of our creek detour, my son made it home safe. Someone gave him a ride after he walked about 2 miles. My husband and I are OK and I think the car will live.

Snow Day Snowmen Cookies via www.thebearfootbaker.comI will be 100% honest with you, I was really mad at snow!!! I felt just like Lorelai on her “I hate snow day” but, we have made up now and I love it as much as I ever did! I love you snow and please come back soon :)

At least I can look at these snow day snowmen cookies and remember the good snow times.

Happy Creating,

Polar Bear Cookies with a Baby Cutter

It was in the 70’s here this week! What in the world is going on with our weather? I want to go throw snowballs, make snowmen and snow angels. I even have a plan for a polar bear snowman! I am going to give him big feet and funny hair! All I need is snow to put my plan in action! Hehe I guess I will have to settle for these polar bear cookies instead.

Polar Bear Cookies Decorated Christmas Cookies via www.thebearfootbaker.comOh well, until then, I will make a cookie version of my cold little friend! I have all my fingers and toes crossed hoping it will get cold enough to snow.  Cross your fingers for me!

Supplies for Polar Bear Cookies:

This Cookie Cutter
Red 15 Second Icing
White 15 second Icing
4 mm Black Beads
Sugar Cookie Recipe
Royal Icing Recipe

Polar Bear Cookie You might recognize this cutter. It is Karen’s Baby Cutter but, I adjusted it a little. I cut off the ears and moved them to the top of the head so it would look more like a bear instead of a baby. If you chill the dough before you cut it, it is super easy and you won’t misshape the dough. It makes a perfect polar bear cookie.

Polar Bear CookiesFirst, outline the bear body and feet with the white icing. Have fun with the outline. I wanted a furry look so I made the edges a little jagged but, I think it would be really cute if he had smooth edges also.

Polar Bear CookiesThen, outline the arms and the top of the feet.
Next, with a food safe marker, draw the top of the heart.

Polar BearWith the white icing, flood the face (not the nose) and feet. While the face is wet, add the 4mm beads for the eyes. If you don’t  have the beads, you can use black icing. Let this dry for about 20 minutes.

Polar Bear CookiesI accidentally flooded the nose on this one! You can flood his face all white and then add the nose on top or leave a spot for the nose and just use black.

Then, flood the arms and let it dry for a few minutes before flooding the rest of the body. Once your polar bear cookie is flooded, let it dry overnight and then add the heart and nose. I forgot to take a picture of that part so please forgive me. I think I was designing a snow lady polar bear for this guy. *Sigh! If it would only snow!

Simple Polar Bear CookiesSince there isn’t any snow to play in, I will bake more polar bear cookies tomorrow! That will make me feel better!

Santa Cookie-The One That Started it All

Today, I am going to tell you about something I did that made me panic 2 minutes after I did it. I thought I would share it with you since yesterday was Black Friday and some of you woke up at 2 am to go fight the cold and crowds to buy gifts for people you love. I felt the time was right to talk about shopping.  Not just shopping, I am talking about overpaying for something because you get caught up in the moment. This Santa cookie story should make you laugh.
