I wish the internet was around when my kids were growing up. There are so many things that inspire me and so many projects I would have made with them. I think I would have replaced nap time with “let’s make something fun in the kitchen time” because that would’ve been more fun! One thing I would have made with them every Halloween is a kid-friendly version of creepy finger cookies.

These cookies are so easy that the kids can help make the cookie dough and help make the finger shapes because all you need to do is add a little green food gel and roll them into fingers. Here, let me show you just how easy they are!

Supplies for Halloween Finger Cookies:

Sugar Cookie Recipe
Green Food Gel Color
Black Royal Icing Recipe-I used this half a batch recipe and there was a lot leftover so I decided to make some DIY Sprinkles.
Big Straw-I used the Bubble Tea Straws because that is what I use to support my cake layers. You probably can find big straws at local restaurants.
Turkey Lacer-One of the greatest cookie gifts I have ever received-Thanks HEATHER!
Optional-DIY Sparkle Dust

How to Make Creepy Halloween Finger Cookies | The Bearfoot Baker

  • Begin by making a batch of sugar cookie dough.
  • Once the dough is made add a few drops of Leaf Green Americolor food gel and continue to mix until the color is mixed well.
  • Then, divide the dough into cookie size pieces.
  • Next, roll them into a sausage shape.
  • With your index finger roll and indent about one-third of the way down the sausage-shaped cookie. Just roll it against the palm of your hand to make it look like a knuckle.
  • Repeat near the base.
  • Your cookie should look like a finger with 2 knuckles.

  • Next, cut a large straw that has the shape of a fingernail.
  • Use it to make an impression in the tip of the cookie.
  • Use the turkey lacer or a toothpick to make the lines in the knuckles.

If the directions bore you don’t worry. I made a “How to Make Halloween Finger Cookies” Video for you.

Nothing like seeing things in action.

Before you bake the Halloween Finger Cookies you may want to chill them. I placed them on a baking sheet and stuck them in the freezer for about 5 minutes before they were baked and that helped the keep the finger shape perfectly.

Let the cookies cool before you add the black royal icing fingernails.

I think we should all find time to make things like this with the kids because they have great imaginations. They’d probably make cute fondant spiders rings and color the nails with DIY Sparkle dust or sanding sugar. I’d love to watch them create amazing cookies so I’m going to try to do this with the grandkids every time they come to town.

I can’t wait to see how you make them because I know your creativity will make them wonderful! Who knows, maybe we can set aside time to bake with the kids every day!
