Whimsical Coffee Pot Cookies
Several months ago Mike and Karen from Karen’s Cookies asked me to participate in a secret project they were planning for Cookie Con 2015. I grew more and more interested with every word as they revealed the details of what they had planned. They wanted several cookie decorators to make a book about a girl named “Cookie Connie.” Get it? Cookie Con, Cookie Connie! They wanted us to make cookies that showed what she went through as she received a cookie order. Each decorator was assigned a page in the book with a theme. We would make cookies for our page and tell Cookie Connie’s story. I had a hard time not interrupting them as they explained because I wanted to scream, “Yes! Yes! I will do it!”
Then the list of the cookie choices arrived and I immediately knew which situation I was going to pick. Connie needs coffee. That is me. I need coffee and Cookie Connie needs coffee so it was a perfect match. The only problem is I wanted to make really cute coffee pot cookies but didn’t have a cute cutter so I texted my friend Tracy from Whisked Away Cutters and asked her if she had or was willing to make a cute coffee pot cookie cutter. She told me she had a whimsical coffee pot cutter in mind and would be happy to make it for me. I couldn’t wait to get started!
When the coffee pot cutter arrived I was blown away! This was the coffee pot cutter of my dreams! It almost looked like it was dancing. Tracy out did herself! It was fabulous!

I haven’t told you the best part yet! I was the Keynote Speaker for Cookie Con this year and I had the privilege of reading the book to everyone after my speech! Oh my gosh! It was so much fun sharing Cookie Connie’s story and seeing all of the amazing cookies as we turned each page. We all laughed as we watched the process of Cookie Connie filling her order. Mike and Karen are genius for thinking of this!
Are you ready to see my page of the book?
Isn’t this book cute!
Here is poor little Cookie Connie needing some coffee in a major kind of way! This is actually a self portrait of me in the mornings. I walk like a zombie to the coffee pot and stare as my coffee fills my cup with the same eyes that Cookie Connie has!
Check out that coffee pot cookie! Tracy made such a great cutter it almost decorated itself. Thank you Tracy for making this project so easy!
Time to decorate!
Begin by drawing the lines with a food safe marker onto the coffee pot cookies by following the lines on the coffee pot. The only thing you need to pay attention to is the spout. I turned the cookies sideways and drew a flying stick bird that looked like the ones I drew as a kid. Can you see it? The rest is easy, just follow the curves of the design.
- Draw the pattern on the coffee pot with a food safe marker.
- Outline the cookie with the icing color of your choice and let it dry for a few minutes.
- Flood different sections of the cookie and let it dry for about 10-20 minutes. If you flood all the parts of the cookie at the same time, it won’t have the details of the handle, spout, base and lid.
- Next, you can airbrush the coffee pots if you want to add some depth and detail but you don’t have to. I think it looks good both ways.
- If you do choose to airbrush it, follow the edges of each section until you have the coverage you are looking for.
- Let it dry completely.
I absolutely love the cookie community because of stories and projects like this. Mike and Karen had a brilliant idea and asked decorators for help. Tracy used her magic and creative brain to make the perfect coffee pot cutter so I could make the cute coffee pot cookies for my theme. I got to decorate and read an adorable book to my friends at Cookie Con. It doesn’t get much better than this my friends!
I am working on a Cookie Con 2015 post. I should have it done soon because I can’t wait to tell you all about it!
Bear hugs,
Im in Love….I have to have this cutter !!!!
Will the book be available ? It looks super cute ! You did an awesome job on your part Im looking forward to your next post !
I am not sure if the book is available or if it was a Cookie Con exclusive. I will check with Mike and Karen and let you know. 😉
Dang my name was wrong its Diane sorry !
I will fix it! LOL
Soo cute! Reminds of the “I’m a little teapot” song. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a coffee pot with attitude, but this one certainly has it!
I KNOW! It is so fun I can’t wait to use it again! 😉
Oh, you certainly worked your magic with this cutter! Thank you so much for thinking of us and you can only imagine the big smile on my face at seeing the picture of your coffee pot cookie in the Cookie Con book too! You really just made my day! I just love these!
You made my day when you created this amazing cookie cutter!! Thank you so much!!!!!
Oh my goodness Lisa….these are happy little pots…I saw this cutter earlier on Whisked Aways new collection and it reminded me of a Disney Character, I would have to stick eyes on him/her. The colors you used are beautiful. I would have loved to have read this book, what a great idea. I was talking to Kip this past weekend from BRP Box company and we were chatting about Cookie Con, he said it is amazing and so are you at what you do. You continue to inspire me, so thank you 🙂
Awe CLAIRE!! You are so sweet! I am so glad I have cookie friends. You all are the best friends a girl could ask for.
Please, please, please, if you make this coffee pot with eyes, send me a picture! 😉
I would also love a copy of this book!
I am definitely Cookie Connie!
One evening I stayed up until 1:30 a.m. to finish some baby shower cookies to be shipped next day FEDX!
Oh no! Did they dry in time? That makes me so nervous Connie! Hey, you already have the name! Bahahahaha!! I love it! You ARE Cookie Connie!
Your adorable coffee pots and Cookie Connie remind me of a plaque I have in my kitchen near the coffee maker….”No Coffee, No Workee”. The coffee pots also look a bit like “Mrs. Potts”, the tea pot, from Beauty and the Beast. All that’s missing is Mrs. Potts son, “Chip”,…a tea cup with a chip in his rim. 🙂
Oh my goodness! I need the “No Coffee, No Workee” sign! That was made for me! LOL
It does look like Mrs. Potts! I wonder if Tracy would make us a “Chip” cup to go with it! LOL
Hi Lisa, This is such a cute post and the coffee pot … reminds me of a Disney movie. They look like they are dancing! I’m looking forward to your post on Cookie Con. Thanks for sharing your techniques.
Tracy did an amazing job on the coffee pot cutter. She has such great style!
I am trying to get my voice back before I do the Cookie Con post. That nasty bug has slowed me down this fall. I hope I can get it posted very soon!
